Eternal Seas by Lexi Rees

When I first started reading Eternal Seas by Lexi Rees, I instantly thought this would be a great audio book for road trips. I went on so many road trips as a kid, traveling from state to state to see all my siblings who'd already gone off to college, so I know which books can keep the whole family calm and awake. Eternal Seas is about a young boy who has a crazy cool connection to water and water creatures. He learns he's magical and destined to protect these relics from evil. He's a great big brother to his sister who is sarcastic, innocent, and not someone you want to get on the wrong side of (my favorite kind of sibling). His dad loves them and takes care of them well. The mom went missing a few years back and hmmm... maybe there's more to learn there??? The team work together on a smuggling boat which is just cool. Of course the plot and future dangers rock the boat, one mine say and then wink at the camera, which add adventure and intrigue to the tiny family dynamic.

I enjoyed reading this book. It's a quick read and the narrator does a good job invoking the right emotions at the right times. You can listen to Eternal Seas here at audible.

Such a small parcel shouldn’t cause experienced smugglers much trouble, but this parcel is far from normal.

Lost and scared after a violent storm, Finn and his sister, Aria, take shelter on a remote island. They discover the parcel contains a relic belonging to a long-forgotten people. Locked inside are powers which will change their lives, and the world, forever.

As Finn realizes his connection to the relic, a vision strikes him - but what does it mean? Who should they trust? And if they decide to follow their hearts rather than their orders, will they manage to deliver the relic in one piece?

Chased across the seas as they try to solve the mysteries within the parcel, the fate of this ancient people depends on them. Finn and Aria must choose between what is right and what is easy - and time is running out....
